Mara T. Thorsen, Ph.D.When you come to my office, you will experience a setting where we work together to help you:
reduce unnecessary suffering,
promote growth and development, enhance self-awareness and understanding, and live a more gratifying and meaningful life. I provide an empathic, compassionate, collaborative, and non-judgmental therapeutic environment. I focus on making a safe setting for you to get to know yourself better. We will work together to focus on helping you overcome the blocks in your life so that you can learn new ways of experiencing yourself, others, and the world around you.
Even though the past cannot change, I try to help you understand the way your past may be influencing your present so that you can find ways to move ahead. In our work, I will help call attention to thoughts and feelings that you may not be aware of and help you grow your capacity to have these thoughts and feelings in a healthy and growth-promoting way. If you have an inability to tolerate your feelings, this can create problems. However, you can learn to use these feelings so that they work for you. Ultimately, this will help you put your energy to good use. Just like building physical muscles through exercise and time, we can build our emotional muscles as well. In this way, you can use your feelings to help solve the tasks and problems of living. If you can grow the capacity to experience your feelings instead having them control you, you can use them to think and this opens the capacity for you to make choices. Through our work together, I hope to help increase your awareness so you can regulate your life with the widest range of possibilities. |
